Natureof Work

The AssociateDirector (AD) for Population Sciences is expected to lead the development of a nationally-recognizedinnovative research portfolio that addresses the full spectrum of cancer populationscience. The AD will oversee the Cancer Prevention and Control Program and the developmentof new programs as appropriate. The AD will provide leadership and directionfor all scientific, policy, and programmatic issues relating to Population Sciences.

To further thescientific excellence of the program, we are seeking an Associate Professor or Professorin the tenure track with expertise in one or more of the areas listed above.The person in this position will provide leadership and direction for allscientific, policy, and programmatic issues relating to the program and workcollaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary group to expand the cancerprevention and control program.

Candidates should have an established background in cancerprevention and control research. Depending on the qualifications of candidates,faculty appointments will be considered by the following units: Department of Epidemiology,Department of Community and Behavioral Health, Department of Health Systems,Management, and Policy, Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Departmentof Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, and/or a department in the School ofMedicine.

  • Experience in conducting cancer population science research,research on the development, implementation, and evaluation of cancerprevention and control programs and/or policies (including approaches fromepidemiology, behavioral and social sciences, psychology, economics, politicalscience, or health services research).

The program utilizes therapeutic approaches to assist individuals in learning healthy coping skills, acquiring life skills, and changing unhealthy behaviors in order to become self –sufficient, confident, and productive members of society. Treatment is also provided to pregnant and parenting mothers, allowing infants to reside with their mothers in treatment. Bonding and attachment is facilitated between mother and child and parenting groups focus on building positive parenting skills.Because this position requires direct observation of females submitting specimens for urinalysis, pat downs of female clients, and nightly bed checks of female clients, being female has been determined to be a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification and only females will be considered for the position. Examples of Work Performed:

  • Provide Modified Therapeutic Community substance abuse treatment to include facilitating group treatment and Individual 1×1’s as a Primary Phase counselor, and to assure client compliance with individual treatment plans.

  • Ensure that client’s follow TC program structure to facilitate client’s progress through treatment

  • Maintain all documentation and service provisions according to OBH, DCJ and ARTS clinical standards.

  • This position will observe, monitor, and intervene in drug/alcohol treatment through addressing client behaviors in the milieu

  • Assure compliance with individual treatment plans and program structure

  • Facilitate clients’ progress through treatment

  • Assure safety of staff and clients

  • Design consequences for negative behaviors, instruct clients in the TC tools

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One (1) year of experience appropriate to the assignment

  • Must presently be certified as a Certified Addiction Counselor Level II, III or master level counselor in the State of Colorado.

The Department of Community and Behavioral Health – Adolescent and School Health Survey Projects has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Assistant Project Director position.The Assistant Project Director will lead the management and operations for various projects related to survey research in adolescent and school health. This role will lead currently funded projects and contribute to grant proposals for additional project funding. Currently funded projects include: (1) Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS), a statewide, school-based survey collecting information from students in 6th-12th grades about health related attitudes and behaviors including mental health, safety matters, violence, tobacco and other substance use, physical activity and nutrition, sexual behaviors, COVID-19 effects, etc.; (2) Smart Source, a statewide, school-based survey of school policies, administered to school leadership; and (3) a 5-year study of the effectiveness of the Life Skills Program on adolescent substance use including a baseline and 3 follow-up assessments. Research proposals under review include an evaluation of bullying prevention programs in Colorado and research on adolescent firearm access. The position will oversee all project staff and activities to ensure successful administration of project timelines and deliverables for all included survey research projects. This includes approving project deliverables, maintaining communication with project funders, managing staff, managing student and temporary employees, triaging community data requests, and supporting students in research and practica projects as need. The Hematology Clinical Trials Unit (HCTU) is looking to hire a full time Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to serve as a member of the Hematology/Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Team. The Administrative Assistant III is responsible for providing administrative support to the Department of Psychiatry Clinical Services staff at the Department of Corrections (DOC) in Denver, Colorado. This position will also assist the Public Psychiatry Manager with daily operations on the Anschutz Medical Campus, including with operations of the forensic psychiatry program.     This administrative facultyappointment supports the senior research administrator for Marcus Institute forBrain Health (MIBH) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Directorof Research for MIBH facilitates innovative, inclusive, and progressivefaculty-led programs of research and scholarship, including programs alignedwith the scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and teaching.     Responsibilities of thePosition

    • Provides strategicleadership on the development and refinement of the research mission of MIBH.

    • Develops and securesconsensus on the vision for research and scholarly activities at MIBH as wellas the strategies by which to realize that vision.

    • Develops short- andlong-range research initiatives and training programs.

    • Aligns MIBH researchresources with its clinical, educational, and community service missions.

    • Collaborates with MIBH leadershipand faculty on the design and implementation of strategies for success of itsresearch enterprise.

    • Develops and maintainseffective systems of support for the research activities and scholarly work ofthe faculty.

    • Mentors and evaluates juniorfaculty engaged in research and scholarship.

    • Facilitates and evaluates theresearch and scholarly endeavors of senior faculty.

    • Provides consultation tofaculty regarding preparation of research proposals, potential funding sources,design and methodology, and interpretation of results.

    • Coordinates staffingrequired for research activities at MIBH and ensures that its research-relatedphysical assets and other property (including intellectual property) areappropriately safeguarded, maintained, and deployed.

    • Facilitates team scienceand strong collaborations within MIBH and supports the formation of collaborativeresearch groups that integrate and support individual programs of research,including cross-program, cross-department, cross-school, and cross-campus teamscience at the University of Colorado.

    • Builds stronginter-professional relationships that enhance new and existing research programsand collaborations between faculty members, faculty and clinical practices orhospitals, and extramural (local, regional, and national) researchcollaborators.

    • Develops newacademic-clinical research partnerships and promotes the scholarship ofapplication and the integration of research activities with clinical practice.

    • Ensures that researchprograms and scholarly activities in which faculty are engaged arescientifically innovative, clinically relevant, ethically sound, and fullycompliant with all relevant institutional, state, and federal regulations.

    • Supports the acquisition ofextramural financial support for research and scholarly activities at MIBH,including state, federal, industry, and philanthropic sources of such support.

    • Demonstrates anentrepreneurial mindset with respect to the acquisition of extramural funding inthe service of the research enterprise of MIBH.

    • Projects, administers, andmonitors budgets related to the research enterprise of MIBH and collaborateswith its finance officers toward that end.

    • Engages in budgetforecasting in relation to intramural and extramural research programs andscholarly endeavors.

    • Coordinates with the ExecutiveDirector on research-related intramural funding decisions.

    • Coordinates with theDirector of Finance & Administration at MIBH on the development and executionof research-related contracts and commitments and administers research-relatedfunding as authorized by Executive Director of MIBH.

    • Prepares research progress reportsas required by MIBH and external agencies.

    • Serves on committees for MIBHto advocate for the research and scholarly success of its faculty and achievementof its research mission.

    • In collaboration with theExecutive Director and/or his designee(s), develops and implements marketingand communication initiatives promoting the MIBH research mission, vision,strategies, and successes.

    • Develops and deliversdidactics on advances in the science and practice of brain injury medicine andbrain injury research to trainees at MIBH and its affiliates, partners,stakeholders, potential collaborators, and other audiences.

    JobResponsibilities

    • Work withintegrated care team that includes mental and physical health professionals,such as physicians, psychologists, nurses and social workers, to provideseamless continuum of care.

    • Provideconsultation to integrated care team members to help diagnosis, assess andtreat complex behavioral health conditions in a primary care setting.

This position is responsible for the implementation and coordination of clinical trials conducted by faculty members at the University of Colorado.Examples of Work Performed
    • Obtains medical history and current medications, reviews protocol inclusion/exclusion criteria, and confirms eligibility of subject. Ensures that the informed consent process has occurred, is properly documented and filed as required.
    • Interviews prospective subjects for multiple clinical studies. Familiarizes potential subjects with the details of the study through phone contacts and personal interviews.
    • Schedules subject participation in research, coordinating availability of necessary space, and clinical support (including but not limited to physician, nurse practitioner, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy). Is familiar with all records required for each study, reviews records after each visit for completeness and accuracy
    • Abstracts and records all patient data essential to the study onto required Case Report Forms (CRFs) and into the Clinical Trials database, as needed, in an accurate and timely fashion. Maintains patient clinical research files.
    • Reports adverse events and serious events to appropriate parties; e.g. Principal Investigator, Study Sponsor, FDA, Data and Safety Monitoring Committee (DSMC), Regulatory Affairs Coordinator.
    • Serves as a contact person for ongoing clinical research studies. Schedules monitoring visits and meets with representatives from sponsoring pharmaceutical firms or in-house staff for initial orientation to studies and for review of study records.
    • Implements care and services that recognize age-specific needs and issues for customers served.
    • Participates in DSMC audits.
    • Collaborates with hospital staff to ensure tests and procedures required by clinical protocols are performed and documented. These include, but are not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen processing, EKG’s, drug administration, and protocol specific tests and procedures.
    • May be called upon to perform the following specific tests and procedures: a) blood pressure, pulse, height, weight, and temperature measurements, b) specimen processing and shipping Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Abstracts and records all patient data essential to the study onto required Case Report Forms (CRFs) and into the Clinical Trials database, as needed, in an accurate and timely fashion

    • Ensures complete source documentation is compiled in research record.

    • Assists clinical research coordinator(s) (CRC) in assessing patient eligibility for approved study by:

    • Gathering source documents.

    • Ensuring the current version of consent forms are completed, informed consent process in properly documented and filed.

    • Reviewing medical history to determine eligibility status.

    • Collaborates with clinical research coordinator in obtaining grading levels for toxicities including assessment of clinical significance of all lab and test results and relatedness of adverse reactions to study product according to protocol guidelines.

    • Schedules and tracks submission of prescreening, screening and enrollment logs as required by study sponsor

    • Schedules, coordinates, prepares for, and conducts sponsor monitor visits and audits in collaboration with the regulatory team, CRC and other research team members.

    • Meets with monitors to respond to any question of data validity and corrects/revises data as appropriate, answers queries from sponsoring companies.

    • Conducts follow-up of study patients

    • Performs clinical duties as assigned based on appropriate licensure and/or completion of competency documentation.
