TheDepartment of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University ofColorado School of Medicine (CUSOM) is seeking applicants for the full-time position ofDirector of Head & Neck Surgery. The current Head & Neck Surgeryprogram is comprised of six head & neck surgeons providing care at fivemajor clinical sites (University of Colorado Hospital, UCHealth Highlands RanchHospital, the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Denver Health, andUCHealth Memorial Hospital); an active resident training program; and a T-32training grant in otolaryngology - head & neck surgery. Other existingInstitutional components that are part of the NCI -Designated Cancer Centerinclude Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology and Pathology Head and Neck CancerPrograms; seven active R01 grants focusing on head & neck cancer; and threeother T-32 training grants related to head & neck cancer. TheDirector’s responsibilities and profile include thefollowing:Develop a comprehensive Head and Neck Surgery Program for CUSOM andUCHealth, coordinating patient care across the systemBuild bridges between the clinical and research missions of othercomponents of the head & neck program to increased speed in translatingdiscoveries into the clinical settingLead our head & neck academic missionto be at the forefront of programs nationally
Duties andResponsibilities: Institutional development components:
Demonstratedability to function in complementary leadership roles in the School ofMedicine, Cancer Center, and across the UCHealth system. Ability and visionto be a national leader of Head & Neck Surgery (HNS).Track record in HNSprogram development.Personal and academic components:
Leadershipqualities and ability to build teams.Recognition as anexperienced, outstanding surgeon.Experience inacademic leadership.Clinical components:
Oversee SurgicalHNS clinical operations at multiple locations across the UCHealth system(Anschutz Medical Campus, Highlands Ranch Hospital, Memorial Hospital, PoudreValley Hospital) and affiliate hospitals (VA, Denver Health) and developharmonized practices and alignments between CUSOM and UCHealth missions.Manage delivery ofHNS care by developing a system-wide pathway for HNS management.Coordinatemultidisciplinary HNS clinical care, research, and education with other head& neck cancer leaders (Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Pathology) toensure alignment with CUSOM mission components.Coordinateeffectively with other non-HNS faculty and divisions within the Department ofOtolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery (Rhinology, Neurotology, Laryngology,Facial Plastic Surgery, Speech and Swallowing Pathology).Research components:
Clinical scientistwith an understanding and background in translational research in head &cancer.Track record ofleading head & neck cancer clinical trials (sponsored or cooperativegroup). Track record ofcollaborative basic or translational research of industry-based or foundationfunding.Ability to workalongside the research mission goals in coordination with other leaders in head& neck cancer (Program grants, Clinical trials).Education/training components:Dedication andability to build an outstanding training program in HNS Surgery for residentsand fellows.Ability to workalongside the education mission goal in coordination with other HNS and CUSOMleaders (T32, Cancer Center initiatives).
Salary andBenefits:The hiring salary isnegotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtimecompensation.
