Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of WorkThis full time position will report directly to Dr. Yiqun Shellman in the Department of Dermatology, and will work on grant funded projects, mainly on a new R01 project. We aim to better understand proliferation, differentiation, maintenance, and development of the melanocyte lineage, and tumor microenvironment of melanoma. The relevant models for these studies are already established in our lab, and include transgenic and xenograft mouse models, cell cultures, and a human iPSC model. As part of a team, the main emphasis of this position is to utilize mouse models and in vitro molecular and cell biology techniques to study the functions and molecular mechanisms of a novel human pigmentation gene we identified. We are seeking motivated and independent candidates. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to experiments with mice; immuno-fluorescence, immunohistochemistry staining of tissue samples; flow cytometry; culture of mammalian cells; and basic and advanced cell biology techniques including confocal microscopy. This position can have supervisory responsibilities of medical students, undergraduates or research or student assistants.
