RoleDescription:


Nowhiring for a full-time Genetic Counselor to provide clinical cancer riskassessment/genetic counseling in the Cancer Center and Hereditary CancerClinic. The position is offered through the (Medicine) Division of MedicalOncology located at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) inAurora, Colorado. The position will be involved in some course instruction andis not eligible for tenure.

WorkingConditions:


Theclinic is a premier source of clinical genetic services for both clinicalservice and research projects in our state and region. As part of a teamincluding genetic counselors, oncologists and gastroenterologists. The Genetic Counselor works in collaborationwith a multidisciplinary health care team. Role model professionalism throughconduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethicaldecision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Examplesof work performed includes the following job specific duties andresponsibilities:

•Providing cancer risk assessments to patients;

•Conducting in-person genetic counseling sessions;

•Pedigree creation using Progeny software;

• Coordinating genetic testing anddissemination of results.

•Assisting patients in obtaining appropriate medical management from theirhealth care providers.

•Consult in an oncology team as a genetics specialist for newly diagnosedpatients in Cancer Center clinics;

•Attend a variety of specialty tumor boards;

•Supervise genetic counseling graduate students;

•Enhance the Hereditary Cancer Clinic through educational outreach to growdemand for patient services and to grow the clinic into a genetic resource forthe state and region; and to provide genetic expertise for Cancer Centerresearchers.

•Performs other duties as required and/or requested based on the needs of thepatient, clinic and department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate with a Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling isrequired.

• Board Eligible or Certified in Genetic Counseling

• Must have completed at least one clinical rotation in aHereditary Cancer Clinic, under the supervision of a Board Certified CancerGenetic Counselor

• A valid driver's license and automobile insurance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preferred experience in cancer genetic counseling specialty

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrates ability to work both independently andcooperatively with a team reflecting positive behaviors toward patients,families, physicians, and all clinical and research staff. Responds tocustomers of all age groups in a friendly, prompt, and caring manner whilemaintaining confidentiality. Promotesmutual respect and professionalism.

• Strong critical thinking organizational, communication, writing,and interpersonal skills.

• Seeking a self-starter and ability to troubleshoot issues ontheir own.

• A must-have for patient care: excellent verbal communicationtelephone skills.
