Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Information, Technology & Data, the Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for providing strategic vision and operational leadership to the Office of Information Technology and accountable for technology systems and solutions campus-wide.

The Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for the delivery of a full spectrum of information technology products and services to the UCI campus, including application services, infrastructure services, networking and communication services, enterprise systems project management, information security, and middleware and data warehouse services. This individual will direct the development of secure IT strategies and solutions that support the business needs of the University. The Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor will direct the development of requests for proposals, participate in the evaluation and selection of cost-efficient leading edge technologies, and manage institutional vendor relationships across the campus.

Key to success in this role will be close collaboration with University leadership to establish value-added IT services using innovative, cost-effective technologies that improve business efficiency and effectiveness. The University seeks a Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor who will foster a cohesive, collaborative and innovative, high-performing, diverse work environment that respects contributions of leadership, faculty, and staff.

Required


  • A minimum fifteen years of experience in information technology management, preferably within complex academic institution environments.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems OR equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.

  • Demonstrated skill in leading a large-scale, cross functional information technology organization encompassing application development, networking, data centers, technical support services, middleware, information security, voice services and supporting administrative functions.

  • Ability to direct large information technology organization and functions; develop and direct information technology strategies.

  • Demonstrated experience with managing fiscal resources for an IT organization; develops budget, conducts forecasting and variance analysis; utilizes financial concepts such as return on investment.

  • Demonstrated business acumen to develop and manage effective professional relationships with staff, business partners, stakeholders and senior executives across an enterprise.

  • Expert knowledge of program and project management methodologies and tools; track record of success in managing large, complex, enterprise-wide IT projects.

  • Ability to direct complex projects and programs, establish project estimates; ability to ensure projects are delivered within budget and using resources efficiently and effectively.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading large teams, overseeing managers and fostering growth and development of a diverse staff.

  • Demonstrated success in applying emerging technologies and innovations to improve the ability to deliver products and/or services more effectively.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Information technologies including data processing methods and procedures; computing software, hardware and network systems supporting research, education, systems security, and healthcare enterprises.

  • Broad knowledge of the latest and evolving developments in advanced technologies and information systems.
