Job Description SummaryReporting to the associate vice president for university advancement, the director of development for major gifts is responsible for establishing and managing prospect and donor relationships with alumni, alumni family members, parents, friends and related organizations through cultivation, direct communication, solicitation, and stewardship to meet fundraising goals in furtherance of the mission and goals of the university.

Job Description

  • Manage assigned pool of 75 - 100 active donor/prospects, travel extensively and maintain an average of 4-6 visits per week.

  • Develop cultivation strategy and plan for each prospect in the portfolio of high net worth prospects and donors.

  • Solicit at least 48 major gifts annually for high priority university projects. Plan and facilitate vice presidential and presidential donor and prospect visits; and participate in solicitation strategy sessions in preparation for solicitations as appropriate.

  • Enter activities, proposals, contacts, strategic plans and correspondence for portfolio prospects into the database; ensure biographic and contact data is accurate and current.

  • Collaborate with campus partners (deans, cabinet members, faculty) to facilitate appropriate connections to advance gift cultivation discussions with donors and prospects. Represent the vice president, and university at community activities sand events that advance the university with principal and major gift level constituents.

  • Represent the university at select community activities and events; participate in university events as appropriate.

  • Extensive travel throughout the state of Florida and country is required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Record of progressive leadership and achievement in fundraising

  • Ability to manage extensive travel

  • Ability and proven track record to secure major gifts ($25,000+) from individuals

  • Effective writing skills

  • Effective listening and communication skills to build relationships with individuals as well as small and large groups.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize work and manage time

  • Effective database and prospect management skills

  • Experience and success in program and staff management is a plus

  • Valid driver’s license.
