    OFFICE PROFILE:

    The Division of Student Affairs has the responsibility of overall supervision of student life, student services and student support and includes residential education, wellness, academic advising, career services, student leadership, recreational programs and all activities related to student enrollment and retention. The Office of Student Life in the Division of Student Affairs is committed to a Christ-centered ministry of helping traditional undergraduate students achieve academic success, pursue vocational exploration, and create the CUI community and experience. This Office supports CUI's diverse student population inside, and outside, the classroom, in order to complete the baccalaureate degree at Concordia University.

    ROLE:

    The Associate Dean for Student Life oversees the Office of Student Life, and is responsible for its activities, programs, and functions related to student experience, engagement and connection. The goal is to enhance student community and involvement, assess and enhance student safely and overall wellness, increase student persistence to graduation, and enrich student Christian ministry at a Lutheran University.

    All activities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the University.

    APPOINTMENT:


    • Recommended by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs

    • Approved by the University President's Cabinet

    STAFF RELATIONSHIPS:


    • Reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students

    • Works closely with all staff and areas of Student Affairs, University Services, Athletics, Campus Security, Enrollment and Retention, Campus Ministry

    • Consults with the Associate Dean for Student Development, Director of Student Conduct, Wellness Directors, Athletics, University Services personnel, and Campus Pastor

    • Also consults with Provost, Deans of the Schools, Department Chairs, Program Directors, faculty, and others on campus regarding policies and programs that affect student success

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:


    1. Sets and executes the vision and organization of the Office of Student Life at CUI with a mindset and heart for Christian ministry in Lutheran higher education
    2. Oversees the plan and strategy for Orientation, Residential Life, Student Activities and Leadership, CU Fitness and Outdoor RecreationSupervises the Director of Residential Education Services Supervises the Director of CU Fitness and Outdoor RecreationSupervises the Director Student Leadership DevelopmentOversees and implements new student orientation (SOAR: Student Orientation Activities and Registration)Hires and oversees of the Peer Advisor Coordinators (PACs) and Peer Advisor Leaders (PALs) to plan and execute Orientation and the first year experienceOversees the Assessment and Care Committee (ACC)
    3. Oversees and collaborates in the creation and implementation of programs and services that contribute to student success, retention, persistence, and graduation

    4. Serves on various university committees, including Retention Committee

    5. Evaluates and implements changes that continue to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of student matriculation, retention and persistence to graduation

    6. Supervises and designates tasks involved in updating the student life web pages

    7. Attends relevant university events representing the programs and strategies of Student Life

    8. Works with various parties to ensure the Residence Life and Housing Handbook, Student Conduct Policies, and Student Handbook are accurate and up to date each year

    9. Other duties as may be assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Directly supervises the personnel in the Center for Student Life and Development, including Residence Life and Housing staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; and appraising performance.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    Master's degree required, in a related field (education or behavior sciences preferred).
