This includes meeting environmental and nutritional needs of a variety of animal species in accordance with established industry standards, state and federal rules and regulations, and ULAR’s own standard operating procedures. This position involves keeping ULAR husbandry staff provided with clean animal cages, which will be used when animals housed in excessively dirty cages are moved into clean ones. Incumbent will work at one of ULAR’s multiple cage washers, either on the “dirty” side or the “clean” side. On the “dirty” side, he/she will prepare dirty animal cages for loading into the washer. On the “clean” side, incumbent will unload the clean cages from the washer and prepare them for use in animal rooms (fill cages with clean bedding). Outside the cage washers, he/she will pick up or deliver the cages between multiple animal facilities on campus. Incumbent will be responsible for cleaning/repairs of cages/enclosures and related ancillary equipment. ULAR will provide the necessary training to perform these duties. Compensation Range: $17.82 Department Website: https://research.uci.edu/index-ie.html Required: Ability to read, write and understand English sufficiently in order to follow given instructions and written standard operating procedures. Valid California driver’s license, to pick up/deliver items around the Irvine campus, and possibly drive to/from the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. Ability to function effectively as a team member. Able to lift, push, pull and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Preferred: Prior experience working in laboratory environment involving animal research. At least 1 year working in warehouse environment, loading/unloading heavy items. Special Conditions Required: May be required to work weekends and holidays on rotation. Must wear protective clothing provided by ULAR (scrubs, masks, gloves, shoe covers, etc). Must attend technician training courses/meetings per ULAR’s discretion. Must be comfortable working alone in following conditions: constant exposure to possible allergens, including but not limited to animal waste, dirty bedding, animal hair, dander, dust, steam, in an enclosed, confined area with no direct access to open air. Must participate in medical monitoring programs as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Program. This may include preventive medical programs such as TB screening, tetanus booster, blood testing, immunizations, medical surveillance and others to meet the state, federal and UC
