Description

The Barbour Laboratory in the Departments of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics and Medicine is recruiting an individual with science and quantitative skills, training in a biological laboratory, and experience with experimental studies with mice. The hired individual will participate in state-of-art research in systems biology, genomics, and genetics of the small rodent that is the primary reservoir of Lyme disease and other infections in North America.Responsibilities in the lab include the following: (1) working collaboratively with graduate students and post-doctoral fellows on research projects; (2) maintaining a rodent colony in association with vivarium staff; (3) carrying out experimental studies with the animals; (4) performing nucleic acid extractions, PCR assays, and construction of libraries for sequencing; and (5) taking care of routine administrative matters in the laboratory, including placing orders and maintaining records for safety and other regulatory matters.

Post-baccalaureate individuals with experience working with mice during undergraduate research or after graduation and have completed college level calculus, chemistry, and biology courses are encouraged to apply. A desirable but not required skill is training in or experience with programming in Python or R. Initial appointment is for at least one year with potential extension and/or renewal based on work performance and availability of funding support.
