Patient Safety Monitor

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, performs direct observation of a patient(s) who have been deemed to be a potential danger to themselves. Will be required to float to all units. This position requires age related competency. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Essential Functions:
* Provides direct observation of patients who are considered to have been or to be a danger to themselves recognize dangerous situations.
* Assists with patient safety issues such as adherence to patient fall protocol, use of restraints, and behavior that is dangerous to the patient's condition.
* Notifies the nurse and/or staff when these behaviors or verbal expressions of such behaviors by the patient occur.
* Interacts appropriately with the patient and/or family.
For Emergency Departments 2003475 & 2003485 only:
* Administers a variety of patient care and special procedures utilizing unique skills/training to this unit.
* Operates a variety of specialized equipment requiring special knowledge, skills, and training unique to this unit
Accountability:
Reports to the staffing office director and is responsible to the charge nurse/department director of the floor where they are assigned.

Standing/Walking: Occasionally; activity exists up to 1/3 of the time
Strength (Lift/Carry/Push/Pull): Light (Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently)
