Surgery Technologist 3 May underfill position with aTech 2 or 1 Job Code: 5082 Position Summary: The SurgicalTechnologist is an allied health professional who works withsurgeons and other health care practitioners providing surgicalcare to patients in a variety of settings. The surgicaltechnologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipmentnecessary during the surgical procedure. Surgical technologistspossess expertise in the theory and application of sterile andaseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy,surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies tofacilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic anddiagnostic procedures Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals asappropriate based on the level of patient contact this positionrequires. Essential Functions: The Surgery Technicianresponsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: *Maintains the sterile field. * Demonstrates an understanding of theprocedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.* Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patientcare and takes responsibility for ensuring patient safety duringthe operative procedure. * Checks supplies and equipment needed forsurgical procedure * Scrubs, gowns, and gloves * Sets up steriletable with instruments, supplies, equipment, andmedications/solutions needed for procedure * Performs appropriatecounts with circulator prior to the operation and before incisionis closed * Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants * Helps indraping sterile field * Passes instruments, sharps, etc., tosurgeon during procedure * Ensures proper disposition of surgicalspecimens and cultures * Maintains highest standard of steriletechnique during procedure * Prepares sterile dressings * Cleansand prepares instruments for terminal sterilization * Assists othermembers of team with terminal cleaning of room * Assists inprepping room for the next patient * May retrieve and transportmedications * Surgical Technologists may, if enrolled in anapproved Surgical First Assist Program with current affiliateagreement with INTEGRIS, perform functions as a Certified SurgicalFirst Assistant while completing program
