This leadership position will provide vision and oversight for all advising processes and practices and collaborate with faculty, staff, and the Senior Director of Planning and Academic Programs to coordinate activities pertaining to advising and student success, including orientation, academic coaching, first-year experience, and student support throughout the student experience.

• Lead the advising processes, academic advisors, and the graduate studies coordinator.


• Develop programs, operational guidelines, policies, and standard procedures to improve students’ educational experiences.


• Supervise, plan, direct, and evaluate a comprehensive advisement program in coordination with associate deans, program chairs, faculty advisors, and directors.


• Design and implement effective and ongoing training programs for faculty advisors to ensure consistent services to students through the campus platforms.


• Build, provision, and coordinate advisor assignments on MyCUHub and manage undergraduate degree audits for majors and minors.


• Coordinate the transfer student process. Develop and implement policies for transfer credit evaluation procedures for articulation guides; Evaluate Education and Leadership transfer review requests, determine; transfer equivalency, and report decision.


• Oversee discontinuation, completion, and graduation process for all School of Education major, minor, certificate, BAM, graduate programs and teacher licensure candidates


• Budget management for advising unit.


• Work in collaboration with the Graduate School, the Associate Dean of Students and the Director to manage all academic petitions and appeals, approve grade changes requests, and consult on academic matters as needed.


• Ensure that advisors receive cross-training on academic programs, career mentorship, financial aid, learning support, student services, study abroad, and other core institutional support services.


• Integrate technology, people and processes, supervise student outcomes and trends, and facilitate actions to ensure successful outcomes.

Develop and Maintain External Relationships

• Build relationships and partnerships while serving as a liaison to the broader campus community on issues related to academic advising (first-year advising network, new student and family welcome, Advising Council), and student retention and success initiatives.


• Strategize with Director of Admissions regarding participation in outreach and recruiting events, (e.g. Admitted Student Day, Scholars Day, Future Teacher Expo, Community College Fairs, etc).

Advising and Student Success Initiatives

• Establish new unit goals and priorities, conceptualize and develop new programs to improve student educational experiences, determine the direction of program growth and change, formulate operational guidelines and procedures, and oversee a wide array of services such as student outreach, transitioning into the school, academic advising, peer mentoring, support for students in the transition to other programs.


• Work in close consultation with the Associate Deans, Directors, school staff, academic and student affairs, residence life, admissions, and other administrative offices on campus to support student success.

• Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field and 5 or more years of experience in undergraduate and graduate recruiting, outreach, admissions and enrollment management at either a departmental or university-wide level OR
• Bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience in undergraduate and graduate recruiting, outreach, admissions and enrollment management at either a departmental or university-wide level.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
• 2 or more years of supervisory experience.
• 2 or more years of experience in planning and executing recruitment events for a large number of prospective students.

• Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, political, and geographical differences, with the capability to work, will with faculty, staff, and students from around the world.
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends and to travel for recruitment events as needed.

What We Would Like You To Have

• Ph.D. in Education, Higher Education, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.


• Five or more years of dynamic experience in implementing effective and innovative approaches for recruiting underrepresented student populations and rural populations as well as honors and high/achieving populations.


• Proven track record working with students, parents, staff, and faculty as well as local and national high schools and other educational institutions.


• Familiarity with CU Boulder’s student information system and application system.
