Capital One is seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering in the Retail & Direct Tech (RDT) space that will be responsible for driving the RDT mobile technology strategy. This is an influential role, driving technology decisions that enable Capital One to have the best mobile banking experience for our customers. This role also supports emerging product capabilities for Family Finances and Savings products, including features like Teen Checking, Zelle for Kids, Autosave, and CashFlow (our feature that shows spending trends).

The Senior Director of Software Engineering will drive the mobile strategy with a focus on delivering value rapidly while protecting the customer experience. This includes developing a roadmap for improved test automation, improved environment stability and test data, as well as refactoring the codebase to better support unit testing and remove dependencies. For Family Finance and Savings, the Senior Director will drive the technology roadmap in collaboration with Product and Design teams, providing our customers with more insight on their spending trends.

Collaboration and a track record rolling out technology strategies is crucial to success. Success in the role requires expertise with mobile as well as a holistic view of software development, including cloud and running software at scale.

You will:

• Partner with Enterprise and Product teams to define the roadmap for our mobile platform. Our mobile platform will provide the foundation for quality, resiliency, and experimentation at scale.




• Partner with Engineering leads to set targets for engineering excellence goals. These include: setting targets for app crash rates, performance, monitoring, and automated quality assurance testing.




• Drive improvements to the shared development and deployment model for mobile releases. This includes: improved test automation, improving our feature toggle capability, and improving how we collaborate with other lines of business on shared code changes.




• Lead the Savings and Family Finance teams, driving app development, API development, testing, and production support.




• Partner with Product teams to define the technology roadmap for Savings and Family Finance teams.




• Play a lead role across RDT mobile teams, with a goal of making Capital One the best place for mobile engineers to develop and grow.




• Drive mobile innovation with RDT, establishing a point of view on emerging mobile technologies, and adapting those technologies to be used in the Capital One app

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree




• At least 10 years’ experience in software development




• At least 8 years’ experience in mobile engineering development (iOS,Swift, Android, Kotlin or Java)




• At least 7 years’ experience in people management




• At least 3 years’ experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree
