Job Description Summary:

The University of La Verne seeks a dynamic, innovative, and seasoned leader to serve as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Founded in 1891, the University of La Verne is composed of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the College of Business and Public Management (CBPM), the LaFetra College of Education (LFCE), and the College of Law (COL), as well as eight regional and online campuses (ROC). There are 55 undergraduate programs, 19 master’s degrees, four doctoral programs, and eight credential programs.

Of the 269 full-time faculty, mostly tenured or on the tenure track, 30% identify as persons within racial and/or ethnic underrepresented populations in higher education. Across all the colleges, the University of La Verne’s more than 8,000 traditional age and adult learners make the university one of the most diverse in the nation, and 44% are first-generation students. The student demographic diversity reflects the population of Inland Southern California, with more than 63% declaring themselves members of ethnic minority groups, including 48% Latinx, 6% African American, and 6% Asian American/Pacific Islander, and 7% international. The student/faculty ratio is 15:1. More than 90% of the University of La Verne’s traditional age undergraduates receive institutional financial aid.

In 2020, U.S. News & World Report ranked the University of La Verne 4th in the country for social mobility, ranking first among private institutions. The university is also ranked #11 among California private national universities. A federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), the university is one of 361 campuses nationally to receive the Carnegie Foundation’s Classification for Community Engagement. Specific Duties:

The Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs reports directly to the president and serves on the President’s Cabinet. The Provost’s responsibilities span strategic planning, policy formulation, budgetary decision-making, assessment and continuous improvement, and faculty support and supervision. The provost will inspire faculty, staff, and students to achieve ambitious goals through effective organization and allocation of resources. The Provost works collaboratively with the president and other university leaders toward the achievement of institutional goals and offers advice and counsel on both the academic programs and the student experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be an experienced academic leader who has held progressively responsible administrative roles in an academic setting. She or he will have demonstrated a record of ethical, fair, and innovative leadership, with excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills, as well as a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and a respect for shared governance. Required credentials are an earned terminal degree in the candidate’s field, with a strong record of scholarship and teaching. The successful candidate will present significant academic administrative experience with evidence of sound fiscal and personnel management, integration of academics and the co-curriculum, and a focus on ensuring success for all members of an academic community.

  • Hire, evaluate, and develop qualified administrators and staff; lead and manage ROC Campus Directors towards performance excellence and accountability.
  • Represent the university and ROC to alumni, donors, outside agencies, and community partners in cooperation with University Advancement.
  • Be a culturally competent employee who attends/completes mandatory diversity and inclusivity trainings as provided by the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Oversees the overall operation of student financial services, billings, receivables, cashiering, and on-line student access to accounts and transactions. Responsible for the assessment of all tuition and fees for student accounts. Manages all student payment options.

  • Safeguards and deposits all tuition, fees, and other monies collected throughout the University. Ensures policy and regulatory compliance of all cash receipts at the University.
  • Analyzes and resolves billing and payment problems. Identifies errors or discrepancies and assist students and their parents with questions regarding their account. Serves as an escalation point for questions and concerns.
  • Ensures timely issuance in student and financial aid refund checks.
  • Monitors the accounting of the accounts receivable module and ensures adequacy of internal controls and procedures for accounts receivable and cash receipts. Recommends and implements system changes as needed to ensure adherence to GAAP as well as University Policies. Responsible for adherence and compliance to federal and state regulations as applied to financial institutions. Provides direction and leadership in financial management of accounts receivable and cash receipts. Provides direction and fiscal policy reviews and implements any changes.
  • Design, implement, and monitor short and long range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures for the department. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness. Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates departmental staff. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other University offices regarding enrollment, assessment of fees and payment processes. Serves as liaison to other University departments and business administrators on policies and procedures. Represents department on committees and meetings.
    Directs, educates, and encourages departmental staff on positive customer service with students, parents, faculty, staff and other University departments.
  • Interacts with accounting staff and primary contact for external auditors; participates in auditing projects, and provides information and access to student account information as required and represent the Office of Student Accounts as a speaker and provide important information about payment options, financial counseling services, critical dates, refunds and book authorizations. Participate in student orientations, informational meetings and training sessions.
  • Responsible for monitoring completed registration and financial obligations of students for each registration period and populations. On-going reporting of results to senior management. Developing solutions and making decisions for students with financial difficulties. Manages and oversees collections of delinquent accounts for student tuition and fees.
  • Identifies and oversees the implementation of software enhancements to improve the efficiency and integrity of Student Accounts.
Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 5 years of experience working in a Student Accounts or Financial Aid Office

  • 5 years of experience working in higher education

  • 4 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership position

  • Knowledge of cashiering and cash management principles, systems procedures and standards

  • Knowledge of accounting and accounts receivable principles, methodology, and practices

  • Knowledge of Federal and State Federal regulations. This includes the Department of

  • Education regulations regarding the disbursement and issuance of Financial Aid and refund checks.

  • Knowledge of the Fair Debt Credit Reporting Act

  • Knowledge of the regulations regarding unclaimed property

The Associate Director of Learning Technologies works with the Associate Dean of Learning, Innovation & Teaching and Director of La Verne’s Title III HSI-STEM grant and functions as the lead in the areas of classroom design, educational technology, technical training and support within the university. Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the Associate Director, Financial Aid for Data Automation is responsible for managing and processing all automated components in the life cycle of a financial aid applicant/recipient.Specific Duties:
