*What You'll Do*The HODINKEE Deputy Editor conceives, assigns, reads, and improves stories about the world of watches and the culture of time. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Content and works across all platforms, from the website to the magazine to the podcast. One day you’ll edit a quick-turnaround news item, and the next day you’ll shape a 2,000-word feature. (Okay, to be honest, you’ll probably do both the same day.) If you’re knowledgable about watches, that’s wonderful — but we already have watch expertise in spades. What we really need is a frighteningly talented editorial leader who has a strong, clear, approachable voice and a sixth sense for how to translate an esoteric topic to the public.In this role, you will…● Own the daily editing of HODINKEE content● Pitch, pursue, and produce fascinating stories that grow and democratize our audience, while satisfying the curiosity of the existing die-hards● Shepherd those stories all the way from inception through publication● Give thoughtful editing notes to a team of staff and freelance writers● Smarten our ideas and sharpen our prose● Collaborate with the SVP of Content and the Web Editor to select the daily publishing lineup● Write headlines and deks that demand to be read● Communicate with watch brands who want HODINKEE to cover their products, events, trips, etc.● Achieve annual strategic goals to reach new audiences and increase engagement*Who You Are***A quick-minded, eagle-eyed, fearless, hilarious, curious storyteller with…**● 10 years of meaningful storytelling experience for premium brands or media outlets● A knockout portfolio of stories you’ve written and/or edited (preferably both)● A demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion in your work● Trustworthy project-management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines● Superb editing chops at the micro and macro levels● An endless supply of story ideas● Experience using content-management systems● A bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in Journalism, English, or Advertising)● Interest in watches, with a desire to learn more● Candidates must possess authorization to work in the U.S.HODINKEE is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
