Professional Advisor
Job Summary:This position provides academic advisement and academic support to students admitted to Savannah State University. Coordinates and monitors academic activities in the
Center for Student Success and Retention; monitors students’ academic progress, coordinates and conducts education sessions with students, staff and stakeholders. Confirms student full-time enrollment and provides referrals to campus entities for student academic support. Assists CSS team with New Tiger Enrollment Sessions, Week of Welcome and other retention efforts. Identifies and monitors issues affecting student retention. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.
Responsibilities include:
Monitor student progress
-Provide academic advisement to assigned students
-Provide academic support to assigned students
-Implement Appreciative Advisement model for students
-Coordinate success workshops on time management, study skills, test taking, etc. to students
-Use EAB Navigate to respond to student progress reports, schedule meetings, communicate with faculty and staff and schedule tutoring
-Maintain FERPA and privacy of students and their records
-Attend all staff meetings and trainings as outlined in the advising handbook and by advising coordinators
Minimum of a Bachelors in counseling, education, psychology or
special education given priority. Prior experience working with college students in advisement or providing academic support will be considered in lieu of required Bachelors’ degree in specific area. Experience with Banner, EAB Campus and PAWS required. Great oral and written communication skills. Willingness to work with students who are at-risk and collaborate with various campus entities. Ability to perform in high pressure, fast-paced environments; must be able to work flexible hours (nights and weekends); annual training is required.
Masters’ degree preferred but not required.
