Responsibilities The Charge Nurse (RN) is responsiblefor directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on anassigned shift to assure successful safe delivery of care. TheCharge Nurse is a caregiver and often takes modified patient careassignment. They practice in a clinical environment that isadministered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supportedthrough the WellStar Shared Governance Model. The framework forpractice is steered by the WellStar Professional Nursing PracticeModel and evidence based practice and research. RN competencies arederived from these models and supported by the WellStar CoreCompetencies. The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is a proactive member ofan interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care giverswho ensure that patients, families and significant others receiveindividualized high quality, safe patient care. Expectations ofpractice include: accountability; responsibility and authority forthe practice of nursing; effective teamwork; delegation;communication; respect; personal development; and development ofteam members. The role contributes to the establishment andmaintenance of practices that ensure excellence in patient care,provides for the efficient use of resources, and undertakesleadership task such as staff schedules, unit patient flow, subjectmatter expertise for clinical concerns, physician rounding,committee involvement, survey readiness, and other task as assignedby the manager, which are basic to the department's ability tofunction in a smooth and effective manner. The RN Clinical ChargeNurse is a resource to other areas opportunity to learn aboutoperational functionality and hospital/facility awareness. He/sheis assists in the growth and development of team members in theunit to help build department skills sets and to inspire expertise.This leader brings with him or her ability to build rapport betweennurses and physicians to continue service to the patients and is arole model to others. Qualifications Required Minimum Education *Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing as andAssociate Degree/Diploma Nurse; Baccalaureate degree in nursing(BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred. RequiredMinimum Licensure/Certification * Current/active license as aregistered nurse in the State of Georgia; * Must have a current BLScard from the American Heart Association on the first day ofemployment in position. National certification in area of specialtypreferred. (Dependent on area of Service may require additionalcertification such as ACLS, PALS.) Required Minimum Experience *One year of nursing experience required, two years preferred.Experience as relief charge with clinical expertise preferred.Required Minimum Skills * Ability to read, write and speak Englishlanguage, optimize the use of technology to support clinical careand holds basic computer skills; * Strong interpersonal skills,critical thinking and decision-making skills. * Works well withothers in a collaborative, team-focused, patient centered way. *Communicates effectively both orally and in written form with alllevels of internal and external resources. * Analytical skillsnecessary to solve technical, clinical and managerial challenges.Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. * Sufficientclinical and leadership experience to ensure competence andcredibility to lead others.
