Surgery Technician II

POSITIONSUMMARY:  

TheSurgical Technician II is under the supervision of the physician, operatingroom manager, and the assigned registered nurse.  The Surgical Technician II participates inthe care of the patient by assisting the surgeon on surgical procedures,planning the supplies and equipment for the procedure, and maintaining theinstrumentation by proper cleaning and sterilizing.  Surgical Technician II possess and applyknowledge of the surgical procedures, is able to pass instruments, holdretractors, cut suture, and keep inventory of sponges, needles and instrumentsused during the operation.  He/She knowshow to operate machinery used during procedures and helps with care anddisposal of specimens removed during surgery for testing.  The Surgical Technician II is proficient insterile technique, sterile processing, integrity of sterile products, andproper use of instruments and equipment.  The Surgical Technician II is proficient inpracticing operating room safety and participates in creating a safe,efficient, and cost effective experience for the surgical patient.  He/She utilizes knowledge of patient’s ageand cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.  The Surgical Technician II utilizes clinicalexpertise in performance of his/her duties. A Surgical Technician II supports the mission and vision of Cache ValleyHospital, and participates in performance improvement activities.  He/She supports Cache Valley Hospitals visionand mission of customer service and quality care.  Because dynamics of the department can changeat any time, duties and schedules can change without prior notice.

POSITIONQUALIFICATIONS

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:     

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required with two years of relative experience. 
  
  

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

• American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification within 30 days of hire
  
  
• Surgical Technician training program education preferred.
