The Position
The Vecchio Lab at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln (UNL) has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to make inroads in clarifying the structural and functional biology of human membrane proteins involved in epithelial cell/cell adhesion and intercellular transport. Our lab employs techniques that span bioinformatics, biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology—including X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS)—to obtain new insights and clear answers to fundamental biological questions in the field. Other activities of the position include assisting with lab organization and operation, student and other personnel training, and grant proposal development and writing, including post-doc fellowships. The start date for the position is approximately January 1, 2021, with secure funding through a 5-year MIRA grant from the NIH NIGMS.

The Candidate
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in structural biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have expertise in structural biology and membrane protein preparation and handling. Such a candidate will be enabled to make immediate and impactful contributions to the lab and field. We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist and natural investigator, a dependable leader who is driven by inquisitiveness and demonstrates excellence in research by being detail oriented; producing thorough, accurate data; and using sound analytical judgement. The candidate should possess effective written, verbal, and listening skills; and will be joining a multidisciplinary group with established collaborators that will enable them to excel in a highly diverse environment.
