Job Description:
A Histotechnician are responsible for examining/preparing specimens and embedding them in the pathology grossing department. Then, they will then cut ribbons in the specimen blocks for technologists to view under slides.
- Accepts laboratory specimens from the accessioning section that will be utilized for processing in the histopathology department.
- Evaluates the acceptability criteria for each specimen and checks for correct labeling, specimen container and source.
- Performs routine cutting of paraffin blocks on a rotary microtome.
- Stains, coverslips and labels slides (automated and manual);Performs special staining procedures (automated and manual).
- Performs reagent QC on routinely used reagents.Runs parallel checks on reagents used on instruments for routine lab work; Troubleshooting.
- Records and determines causes for assay failure.
- Maintains appropriate records, logs as required by laboratory QDx Pathology Services and various regulatory agencies.
- A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
Shift Available:
Monday-Friday 7:00AM-3:30PM
Pay:
$28/hr
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in Histology OR 2 years of experience as Histotechnician OR certification from trade school
- Ability to cut wax/embedded samples into fine ribbons for testing
Performance Expectations/Working Environment:
- First day in showing clear understanding on how to cut ribbons in samples.
- Training with Senior Technicians, showing the process for COVID-19 testing entering the lab and how it is accessioned/tested before officially working; takes about 2-3 weeks.
- Evaluation after 2-3 week training period to see how ready Grosser is to take on role; 3 month evaluation after
