The Paramedic functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse and Medical Director. The Paramedic provides patient care within a defined scope of practice that included patient care and observation, specified treatments and procedures; provision of environmental and personal safety; effective communication. The Paramedic will also be responsible to collect pertinent data within their certification scope of responsibilities and report these clinical, psychosocial , etc., findings to the RN and ED physician.

 

BASIC PATIENT CARE: Assists patients with basic care needs and any other duties related to the well-being of the patient following established nursing policies and procedures.  Prioritizes  patient care activities based on patient needs and unit activity under the direction of the Resource Nurse/Clinical Coordinator.


TREATMENT AND PROCEDURES:  Administers treatments and various procedures (within their scope of practice) to patients as ordered by the physician and directed by the Professional Nursing Staff.  Performs monitor technician duties and responsibilities as needed.  Transporting of stable medical/telemetry/unit patients; obtaining vital signs - frequency specific to patient's condition; **Phlebotomy and specimen with proper labeling/transporting of specimens; applying cardiac monitor where appropriate; implementation of comfort and safety measures (i.e., side-rails up, call bell within reach, stretchers in low position); communication and documentation of tasks and interventions performed; stocking patient rooms with appropriate medical supplies; **performs 12-lead EKG; setup sterile trays for suturing/sterile procedures; **insertion of foley catheter when appropriate; documentation of intake and output; maintain and secure sterile or contaminated instruments to and from Central Sterile; collaborate with Bio-med for repair of equipment.


 

Qualifications


  • High School Diploma/ GED required

  • State of Florida Paramedic License required

  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association ,as well as ACLS, PALS and PHTLS required

  • 1-2 years experience as a Pharamedic.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.

  • Ability to quickly make decisions to report patient condition with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED), preferred

  • Successful completion of EKG course and exam

Licensing/Certifications
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support)
Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a monitor tech in a hospital setting.

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.

  • CMT/Cardiac experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias.

  • Ability to quickly make decisions to report patient condition with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of indications and adverse reactions of cardiac IV medications.

  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions.

  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.

  • PC skills.

POSITION SUMMARY:  Performance of selected acts, including the administration of treatments and medications, in the care of the ill, injured, or infirm and the promotion of wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness of others under the direction of a registered nurse.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

 

Provision of Care

  • Accurately documents the administration of care in the patient record in a timely manner.

  • Collects patient data, and collaborates with the RN or Charge RN for care planning and nursing needs.  Takes appropriate nursing action under the direction of the RN/Charge RN and/or physician in ensuring the patient's physical, emotional and rehabilitative needs are met.

 

  • Implements and monitors care plans under the direction of the RN or Charge RN.  Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.  Adheres to establishes plan of care, administers medications, blood products, and performs care within scope of practice and hospital policy.

 

  • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect to physician(s) and Department Director and/or appropriate agency.

 

  • Participates in rounding and proactively responds to patient needs to improve patient outcomes and positively impact overall patient experience.

 

  • Contributes to a culture of patient centered care by ensuring a quiet healing environment.

 

 

Qualifications


  • Vocational/Technical degree required

  • Previous experience in an acute care setting strongly preferred

  • Current Florida State LPN Licensure required

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required for LPN's on all nursing clinical units. 

  • Current ACLS (Advanced Life Support)  required 

  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skill
