Responsibilities:


 We are currently looking for an Account Engineer to join our team. As an Account Engineer you will need to understand the nature of the customer's business, their goals and the risks they face. In addition, a successful candidate will need to work closely with existing clients, prospects and brokers to practically solve engineering problems while professionally representing AFM Insurance Company.


 


 

Qualifications:


This position requires someone with an engineering degree/engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 months of Loss Control field engineering experience with 5+ years preferred.


 


A successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills; teamwork skills and initiative; the ability to identify, quantify, and understanding hazards in all basic occupancies.


 


Demonstrated ability to utilize technology and effective time management skills.


 


This person will have field inspection activity account for approximately 20-40% of their time, with overnight travel anticipated at 5-10%.

Responsibilities


On an account wide and corporate basis, the Boiler & Machinery Account Engineer I evaluates and assesses the nature, probability and magnitude of loss potential and communicates this to a customer/prospect and account team. Experienced engineers will use their expertise to consult with clients to protect their facilities against mechanical and electrical breakdowns, fire and many other hazards. The incumbent prioritizes the exposures, ensures the customer understands the hazard and the risk to their facilities, agrees to the solution and implements the needed changes. Through teamwork with FM Global field engineering, underwriting, claims and new business development, the Boiler & Machinery Account Engineer I provides a responsive service with innovative solutions to challenges that will foster long-term customer relationships.


The Account Engineer I is involved in medium to large sizes accounts with complex processes and unique occupancy hazards. Experienced engineers will interact with high hazard FM Global clients within the PowerGen, Steel & Aluminum, Semiconductor, Mining, Chemical and similar industries.


 Additional responsibilities include:



  • Evaluate the integrity and reliability of equipment, identify hazards and deficiencies to deliver focused risk improvement solutions and reduce equipment risk.

  • Utilize Operating standards, data sheets and guides to provide risk guidance and implement best practices.

  • Collaborate with Field Engineering, Operations Engineering, Account Management and Underwriting on Boiler & Machinery recommendations.

  • Develop and manage an engineering resource plan that meets company and individual customer/prospect needs.

  • Accurately assess and evaluate global risk information to obtain a competitive advantage for our customers, prospective customers and FM Global.

  • Manage the achievement of global engineering consistency on an account basis.

  • Obtain customer/prospect understanding and agreement on the key hazards and the corporate impact of the exposures.

  • Consistently achieve risk improvement on a corporate basis.

  • Effectively manage change with corporate customers.

  • Manage the customer engineering relationship.

  • Consistently illustrate value-added differential of FM Global engineering to our corporate customer/prospect.

Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a concentration in either electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a high hazard industry such as power generation, chemical, nuclear, mining, pulp & paper, manufacturing or maritime

  • Must possess knowledge of electrical and/ or mechanical power generation and associated equipment and systems such as rotating equipment, boilers, generators, system interrelationships and knowledge of safety devices. Industrial Control Systems experience highly desired.

  • At least 4 years’ experience, as a loss prevention consultant with FM Global or another HPR carrier preferred.


Skills/Knowledge:



  • Demonstrated experience to understand basic machinery and equipment along with hands on exposure

  • Candidates will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in MS Office products is required

  • Candidates must be analytical, organized and have good problem solving and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to balance attention to detail with focus on key objectives.

  • Possess strong risk identification and quantification skills, including interdependencies and business impact.

  • Basic knowledge of insurance concepts.


Both office and travel time required on a regular basis. Total work time out of the office is estimated to be 35% of total time.

Facility & Natural Hazards Consultant Engineers will interact with high hazard FM Global clients within the Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries.  Experienced engineers will use their expertise to consult with clients to protect their facilities against fire, explosion, natural hazards, and many other hazards.  As a Facility & Natural Hazard Consultant Engineer, you will develop strong client relationships to advise on risks associated with client businesses as well as develop and implement risk improvement strategies.


 


**This position will be located in Kingsport, TN.**


 


Additional responsibilities include:



  • Evaluate the integrity and reliability of equipment, fire protection systems, and identify hazards and deficiencies to deliver focused risk improvement solutions and reduce facility risk

  • Utilize FM Global operating standards, data sheets and guides to provide risk guidance and implement best practices

  • Prepare engineering reports, loss expectancies to support risk improvement
